The Parasound Zdac v.2 combines high-quality digital conversion, analogue preamplification and headphone amplification in a compact desktop component. Its Analog Devices AD1853 24-bit/192kHz DAC works with an AD1895 asynchronous sample-rate converter, while all digital inputs are reclocked and upsampled to 24-bit/422kHz for digital signal processing.

The Zdac v.2 accepts optical and coaxial digital signals up to 24-bit/192kHz, while its USB input supports computer audio up to 24-bit/96kHz. A Texas Instruments TAS1020B USB streaming controller provides driver-free USB operation for compatible PC and Mac systems.

For headphone listening, the Zdac v.2 incorporates a Texas Instruments TPA6120 headphone amplifier with high-current output. Separate volume control is provided for the headphone outputs, and both 1/4-inch (6.35mm) and 1/8-inch (3.5mm) gold-plated headphone jacks are included. Parasound specifies compatibility with headphones from 32Ω to 600Ω.

The analogue output section provides both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs, with selectable fixed or variable output levels. This allows the Zdac v.2 to function as a DAC, headphone amplifier or analogue preamp in a wider Hi-Fi system. A built-in toroidal power transformer provides dedicated internal power rather than relying on an external wall adapter.
