The Parasound NewClassic 200PRE is a versatile stereo preamplifier designed to serve as the central control hub of a modern high-fidelity audio system. It combines analogue preamplification, digital-to-analogue conversion, phono playback and flexible system integration in a compact 1U chassis.

At its core is a Burr-Brown PCM1798 DAC, supporting up to 24-bit/96kHz PCM through USB and up to 24-bit/192kHz through optical and coaxial digital inputs. This makes the 200PRE suitable for connecting computers, TVs, CD players, streamers and other digital sources.

Vinyl enthusiasts can connect both Moving Magnet and Moving Coil cartridges through the built-in phono stage. MM operation provides 40dB gain with a 47kΩ input impedance, while MC operation provides 50dB gain with a 100Ω input impedance.

The 200PRE also incorporates analogue-domain bass management, featuring a variable 20–140Hz high-pass filter for the main speakers and two subwoofer outputs. A dedicated headphone amplifier, tone and balance controls, Home Theatre Bypass and input renaming add further versatility.

For custom installations, the preamplifier includes RS232 control, a rear-panel IR input and a 12V DC trigger output. With its combination of high-quality DAC technology, MM/MC phono support, extensive connectivity and compact design, the Parasound NewClassic 200PRE is an excellent choice for a flexible two-channel stereo system.
